BOST Announces Federal AID to Revitalize Brownfields in MT. Vernon, Shawneetown
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today announced over $850,000 in new federal Brownfields assessment grants to support environmental cleanup and redevelopment in Jefferson and Gallatin counties . The grants will aid local officials in assess ing former industrial and commercial sites in Mt. Vernon and Shawneeetown , develop cleanup plans, and prepare for future developmen t . “ Brownfields can be a blight on an otherwise healthy, growing community,” said Bost. “I am happy that Mt. Vernon and Shawneetown are receiving federal support to clean up old properties and bring new jobs and development to their downtown area s . ” Mt. Vernon will receive $500,000 to assess and plan for cleanup at sites including the former Park Plaza Shopping Center and a vacant boat repair shop.
