Plaskett Mourns Passing of ALDA Monsanto

For Immediate Release                             Contact: Tionee Scotland January 12, 2025                                                   202-808-6129 PRESS STATEMENT PLASKETT MOURNS PASSING OF ALDA MONSANTO Washington, DC – Congresswoman Plaskett released the following statement expressing condolences on the passing of Alda Monsanto: “I was saddened to hear of Alda Monsanto’s passing. She was a good friend and a tremendous source of counsel and guidance for so many in our community. Miss Alda’s commitment to service in our community spanned many decades, both in the public and private sectors. Her government service includes her time as the Executive Director of the V.I. Housing Authority for almost a decade and her excellent work as the Chief Labor Negotiator for the Government of the Virgin Islands. She took her experience in government service and used it as fuel to continue her mission to improve life for Virgin Islanders.  That work was most notable as a founding and longtime board member of Merchants Commercial Bank. My last conversation with Mrs. Monsanto was at an art opening on St. Thomas. She was there not only in her capacity as Board Member Emeritus of the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands, but more importantly as a supportive Virgin Islander. “Miss Alda’s contributions to our community are innumerable.
