Kelly Statement on Israeli Strikes on Iran

Today, Arizona Senator, Navy combat veteran, and Senate Intelligence and Armed Services Committee Member Mark Kelly released the following statement on the Israeli strikes on Iran: “It’s unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. President Trump killing the Iran nuclear agreement accelerated Iran’s development towards a bomb. Israel has a right to defend itself, but my hope has been that another agreement could be reached. “While no one should grieve the death of Iranian commanders who have directed terrorism and killed innocent people, this is a dangerous moment and I am concerned about escalation in the region that could endanger American citizens, troops, and our interests. As we support Israel in protecting their people from Iran’s response, everyone needs to be focused on de-escalation.”
