Rep. Gillen Statement on Supreme Court Decision Allowing Trump Administration to Terminate TPS for Haitians
June 25, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released a statement following the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian recipients. “The Supreme Court's cruel and harmful decision to end Temporary Protected Status for hardworking, law-abiding Haitians in this country now puts our friends and neighbors' lives at risk, as they could be forced to face the horrific violence and chaos in Haiti. It flies in the face of the administration’s own designation of Haiti as a maximum travel risk. "I have stood shoulder to shoulder with our Haitian community on Long Island throughout this fight, pushed back against the administration, and fought this termination in the courts. I will not relent in securing their safety. "Removing our neighbors would not just be a humanitarian catastrophe; it would hurt our economy. Haitian TPS recipients are a part of the fabric of our daily lives and pillars of our economy and faith communities. They are a fundamental part of our vibrant identity on Long Island. After passing my bipartisan bill in the House to extend this life-saving protection, I will continue to work with my colleague across the aisle and in both chambers of Congress to ensure it passes in the Senate. This fight is not over.” ###
