Graham Welcomes $200 Million in Federal Disaster Reimbursement for South Carolina
WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) hailed this week’s announcement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approving over $200 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reimbursement grants for South Carolina.
Over the past eight years, South Carolina has endured several devastating storms, including Hurricanes Ian, Florence and Helene. These catastrophic hurricanes demolished homes, destroyed thousands of power lines and took the lives of innocent South Carolinians. During the course of these natural disasters and other severe weather events, Governor Henry McMaster submitted requests for emergency disaster assistance to the federal government. The Trump Administration’s decision to approve these requests helps communities become financially whole, bringing them one step closer to normalcy.
Spartanburg County, one of the communities most impacted by Hurricane Helene, will receive more than $9.5 million in reimbursement grants. The South Carolina Department of Transportation and the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina will receive approximately $75 million and $94 million, respectively, for their response efforts to storms across South Carolina.
“I applaud the Trump Administration and Secretary Noem for approving more than $200 million in FEMA grants to reimburse South Carolina for its efforts to recover from natural disasters over the past few years. When Hurricane Helene swept through the Palmetto State, it destroyed entire communities, many of which are still rebuilding. These approved funds will reimburse state agencies and other South Carolina organizations that have helped families get back on their feet quicker and made communities whole again,”
said Graham.
“To Governor McMaster, thank you for your leadership during these crises and for ensuring these grant applications received the consideration they deserved. To President Trump, thank you for remembering South Carolina and sending help when our people needed it the most.”
