Moolenaar Votes for Budget to Get America Back on Track
February 25, 2025 Press Release Today, Congressman John Moolenaar voted for a budget resolution, which passed the House of Representatives 217 to 215. The budget provides a path for Congress and the Trump administration to deliver on the priorities of Michigan families. "Michigan families know that the status quo in Washington is not sustainable. Our nation is $36 trillion in debt and passing this budget is a major step in getting our country back on track. The budget resolution delivers on President Trump’s agenda and secures major wins for Michigan residents. It reins in the federal bureaucracy to reduce spending, helps secure the southern border, restores American energy dominance, and provides tax relief so hardworking Michigan residents keep more of their own money," said Moolenaar. Included in the resolution is an extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 , the first major overhaul of the tax code since 1986. If the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was allowed to expire this year, it would result in a 22% tax increase for the average American, and the Child Tax Credit would be cut in half for 40 million families. The resolution also invests funding into border security and the energy industry to increase production and lower costs for Michigan residents. It also directs committees in Congress to identify savings by cutting burdensome regulations on small businesses, as well as eliminating waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government.
