Hickenlooper, Colleagues Introduce Resolution Calling for End to Two-Month Blockade on Gaza Humanitarian Aid
WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper joined U.S. Senator Peter Welch and 26 of their Senate colleagues in introducing a resolution calling on the Trump Administration to use all diplomatic tools at its disposal to bring an end to the blockade of food and life saving humanitarian aid and address the urgent needs of civilians in Gaza. In their resolution, the Senators express grave concern about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, including the imminent starvation of tens of thousands of children.
“The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is dire. To prevent even more harm and save countless lives, we must get food, water, and medical supplies to the civilians who desperately need them,”
said Hickenlooper.
Hickenlooper has repeatedly advocated for sustained access to
humanitarian aid
in Gaza, including water and medical supplies, the
delivery of lifesaving fuel to hospitals and water treatment facilities
, and
funding to meet the United Nations’s $294 million emergency appeal.
He also urged President Biden to address the
uptick in settler violence
and the
dire economic situation
for Palestinians in the West Bank.
In November 2023, Hickenlooper called for a
humanitarian pause
in Gaza. A few weeks later, an agreement for a seven-day temporary ceasefire brokered by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt led to the release of 105 hostages and for vital humanitarian aid to reach the nearly two million Gazan civilians displaced by the war. Hickenlooper has also
called for the restoration
of a mutual ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the release of all Hamas-held hostages.
