Larson Calls for Full Congressional Stock Trading Ban

Image September 10, 2025 Press Release Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) cosponsored the bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act , which would bar Members of Congress from owning, buying, or selling stocks. Larson has long been an advocate for a Congressional stock trading ban. In 2012, he helped lead efforts to pass the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act , to ensure Members of Congress cannot profit from information they learn in the course of their work and joined President Obama when he signed it into law. "The American people should be able to trust that their representatives are focused on their needs in Washington, not enriching themselves with padded stock portfolios,” said Larson . “That is the type of behavior that erodes public trust in public office, not to mention the culture of corruption and crypto schemes coming out of the White House. In 2012, I worked with President Obama to ban insider trading by Members of Congress by passing the STOCK Act. Since then, I have fought to strengthen that law so Members cannot and do not profit from the information they learn while representing their constituents. Now is the time to pass a Congressional stock trading ban once and for all.” The Restore Trust in Congress Act will prohibit Members of Congress, their spouses, dependent children, and trustees from owning, buying, or selling individual stocks, securities, commodities, futures, and other comparable assets.
