Courtney Statement on New $196M AUKUS Contract Award for Electric Boat
April 23, 2026 Press Release NORWICH, CT – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the bipartisan Friends of Australia Caucus, released the following statement the U.S. Navy’s new $196 million contract award for Electric Boat , which is the first contract awarded by the U.S. Navy for work in support of the AUKUS program. “Today’s announcement that Electric Boat has been awarded a first in kind contract of $196 million to support engineering and design work for submarine capabilities in the AUKUS program is powerful evidence that this security program, authorized by Congress in 2023, is tangibly moving forward,” Courtney said. “These funds, which come from Foreign Military Sales, are proof that AUKUS is not just a plan on white boards but a real enterprise that eastern Connecticut will make a success.” Under AUKUS, the Australian government will invest $3 billion (USD) into the U.S. submarine industrial base, which will be delivered in installments.
