Patronis Stands Up Against Big Tech to Protect Our Kids

January 22, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Patronis spoke on the House floor urging his colleagues to support H.R. 7045, the Promoting Responsible Online Technology and Ensuring Consumer Trust (PROTECT) Act , legislation to repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and end the special legal immunity granted to Big Tech companies, restoring accountability to online platforms that profit while children pay the price. Congressman Patronis: “Mr. Speaker, I rise today to urge my colleagues to support H.R. 7045, the PROTECT Act, because it is time to repeal Section 230 and hold Big Tech accountable for the harm being done to our children. I am a father of two young boys, and I refuse to stand by while powerful technology companies knowingly harm kids without consequences. This is the only industry in America that can knowingly harm our children with no consequences and walk away without responsibility. Big Tech has become digital fentanyl that is slowly killing our kids, pushing parents to the sidelines, acting as therapists, and replacing relationships with robots. This must stop. Parents are fighting a system designed to replace them. Algorithms and chatbots fuel addiction, depression, self-harm, and suicide, all while companies hide behind Section 230. When social media leads our kids to suicidal thoughts and our children believe that they are better off gone, no one is held responsible, this is deeply broken. I am demanding accountability. I am standing up for children. And I am saying the double standard ends now. Mr. Speaker, I yield back.” ###
