Sen. Tim Scott hosts 16th annual South Carolina Prayer Breakfast
WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) hosted his 16th annual South Carolina Prayer Breakfast, bringing together hundreds of South Carolinians, including elected officials, faith leaders, and community members. This year’s breakfast was hosted in loving memory of late Sen. Lindsey Graham. Sen. Scott honored Lindsey’s legacy as an esteemed colleague, dear friend, and devoted brother. His years of service to South Carolina and this nation will not be forgotten. Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) and U.S. Representatives Sheri Biggs (R-S.C.-03), Russell Fry (R-S.C.-07), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.-05), William Timmons (R-S.C.-04), and Joe Wilson (R-S.C.-02) also shared remarks. “One of the things I will tell you about Lindsey that I think is important to our Scripture today is Philippians 1:6, that he who began a good work is going to be faithful to finish it. And I look around the room, and I know that everybody doesn’t believe as I believe. We have people from different faiths, different walks, people who don’t believe at all,” said Sen. Scott. “In this hyper polarized world that we’re living in, it is so easy for us to make the decision that because you don’t agree with me, you are my enemy. Lindsey never practiced that. Lindsey built a bridge from the Republican side of the aisle to the Democrat side of the aisle, because he believed that there were good people on both sides of the aisle,” he continued. “Every single day, Lindsey was just who God created him to be. We are all complex, complicated layers of humanity, all in one person, typically in conflict with even ourselves. And if you can be comfortable just being you, it might be one of the ways that we honor the Lord, honor the person in the mirror, and for me, honor the life of Lindsey Graham,” he added.
