Schmitt Leads Missouri Delegation in Letter Urging Approval of Federal Disaster Declaration Following June Storms

U.S. SENATE — Today, U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) led the Missouri congressional delegation in a letter to President Trump supporting Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe’s request for a major federal disaster declaration in response to the devastating storms that impacted communities across Missouri from June 4 through June 18, 2026. The delegation wrote, “We write in strong support of Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe’s July 9th request for a presidential major disaster declaration following the devastating storms that took place in Missouri from June 4th through June 18th of this year.” “As communities across Missouri continue rebuilding from prior disasters, the storms from June 4th through June 18th delivered a new wave of destruction, further straining recovery efforts and forcing families, businesses, and first responders to once again confront significant losses. Preliminary damage assessments (PDAs) of the June 4th through June 18th storms document over $32 million in eligible infrastructure damage and emergency protective measures across 34 counties. These are not abstract figures—they represent real and lasting hardship for Missouri communities, where daily life has been disrupted and local capacity to recover is stretched beyond its limits,” they continued. The delegation concluded, “Respectfully, we urge you to direct your administration to swiftly review Governor Kehoe’s major disaster declaration request and present it for your approval.
