Budzinski Hears from Metro East Seniors on Impacts of Government Shutdown

<p><strong>ALTON, IL&nbsp;</strong>— Today,&nbsp;<strong>Congresswoman</strong>&nbsp;<strong>Nikki Budzinski (IL-13)</strong>&nbsp;met with senior citizens and senior living organizations in the Metro East to discuss how Trump Administration policies and the ongoing government shutdown are impacting vital services for older Americans.</p>

<p>The conversation, which took place at Senior Services Plus in Alton, centered around issues related to Social Security and Medicare in the context of the ongoing government shutdown, as well as broader priorities like the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act and the shuttering of the Administration for Community Living.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Today, I heard directly from seniors and senior living organizations about how things like meals, caregiver support, and transportation, are being impacted by the shutdown. We also discussed how policies from the Trump Administration, like the elimination of the Administration for Community Living, are making day to day life harder for our older Americans,” said&nbsp;<strong>Congresswoman Budzinski</strong>. “As this shutdown drags on, my office remains open and ready to help anyone with questions or concerns related to benefits, like Social Security. I am going to keep working to shore up these critical services for our seniors and I remain committed to being their strong voice in Washington, DC.”</p>

<p>The organizations that participated in the meeting included Senior Services Plus, AgeSmart Community Resources, IMPACT CIL, Programs and Services for Older Persons, and the Glen Carbon and Granite City senior centers.&nbsp;</p>
