Resources / Press Share on Congresswoman Nikema Williams’ Statement on Voting Against Mass Surveillance Apr 30, 2026 Press WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) released the following statement in regards to voting NO to the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act: Congresswoman Nikema Williams said: “Mass surveillance is a civil rights issue. This Administration has shown little interest in protecting the civil and Constitutional rights of the American people, and this legislation only makes matters worse. It lacks meaningful warrant requirements and judicial oversight, effectively asking the very agencies with a history of abuse to police themselves. That is not accountability. Congress must establish real guardrails to address the growing risks of over-surveillance. We cannot protect our freedoms by chipping away at our privacy. Our fundamental rights should never be sacrificed under the guise of national security. The American people deserve transparency, accountability, and enforceable safeguards—not expanded government surveillance. That’s why I voted no on the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.” Share on
