STATEMENT: Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester Votes NO on the GENIUS Act
June 11, 2025
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement following her vote to oppose cloture on the Hagerty-Gillibrand Substitute Amendment to theGENIUS Act, legislation that would create a framework for stablecoins within the U.S. financial regulatory system.
“I appreciate the good-faith bipartisan negotiations that have taken place over the last month to attempt to improve this bill. While this legislation has improved, it still falls short.
“As I mentioned in my statement last month, there are several areas of the bill that I felt needed significant improvement with the goals of rooting out corruption, protecting consumers, and protecting our financial stability. I felt as though these improvements could have been achieved through an open amendment process, but unfortunately, one was not offered. For that reason and those laid out in my previous statements, I could not support this bill.”
