Gillen Statement on GOP Tax Bill

May 22, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC — This morning, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement: “The partisan budget bill, proffered and passed without accepting any bipartisan input, dramatically raises costs and our national debt by trillions of dollars and fails the American people. “The President promised to get SALT back but he did not. The Republican Majority blocked my amendment that would have eliminated the SALT cap, lowering taxes for my constituents and hardworking families across the country. Instead of ending this unfair double taxation, Republicans extended it. “The bill’s cuts to Medicaid will force nearly 14 million Americans off of their health coverage, as confirmed by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. The bill defunds women’s health care services and will raise health care costs for all Americans and especially hurt the most vulnerable in our communities: our children, special needs community, nursing home residents and veterans. “This bill, drafted behind closed doors and debated in the dead of night, is fiscally irresponsible and does great harm to the American people.” Issues : Lowering Costs
