Rep. Valerie Foushee Introduces War Powers Resolution To End Trump’s Illegal, Immoral War With Iran

WASHINGTON, DC (May 13, 2026) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) , a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, introduced a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s illegal war with Iran. “Trump is plunging our country into another forever war that has already claimed the lives of American servicemembers, killed thousands of civilians, and wastes taxpayer dollars every single day. We cannot continue to stand by as Republicans lie and claim our government cannot afford to provide our communities with healthcare or fully fund SNAP, all while spending billions on a war the American people never asked for,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) . “Though the White House brands Trump as the ‘President of Peace,’ the facts are clear: Trump has escalated U.S. military involvement in Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran. This Administration has fostered little-to-no change while endangering innocent lives and further destabilizing entire regions. Congress has a moral obligation to end this illegal war immediately.” According to Professor Linda Bilmes of the Harvard Kennedy School, the war with Iran costs America two billion dollars each day and will cost at least one trillion overall. In comparison, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill cuts SNAP by $187 billion through 2034, and cuts just over $1 trillion from Medicaid and ACA marketplaces respectively. Congresswoman Foushee cosponsored the bipartisan War Powers Resolution introduced by Reps. Khanna and Massie in June of 2025 . She voted in favor of passing Rep. Massie’s War Powers Resolution in March of 2026, and in favor of passing Rep. Meeks’ War Powers Resolution in April of 2025 . Congresswoman Foushee is also a cosponsor of the Block the Bombs Act , Rep. Nydia Velazquez’s War Powers Resolution to stop Trump’s military blockade of Cuba, and Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s War Powers Resolution to stop the U.S. military from further assisting the Israeli government’s hostilities in Lebanon. Congressional Progressive Caucus members Reps.
