New Report: CO Families Have Spent $3,300 More On Goods & Services Under President Trump
As Iran War continues, Colorado families are spending more on gas, groceries, housing, and healthcare WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper underscored the devastating impact of the cost-of-living emergency following a new report by the Joint Economic Committee Minority, which found that Colorado families have spent $3,300 more in goods and services under President Trump. Some of the key findings from the report are: Energy Costs: The average Colorado family has spent $347 more on gas since the Iran war began . Meanwhile CO families have paid more than $80 more for electricity in 2025 under President Trump than they did in 2024. Housing Costs: Colorado families have spent $416 more on housing costs such as rent and mortgage payments since President Trump took office. Grocery Costs: Americans have paid $310 more for groceries in President Trump’s first year than in 2024. Grocery prices are up 4% since Trump took office. Health Care: Monthly Affordable Care Act (ACA) premiums have risen over 50% on average in 2026 compared to last year while deductibles surged to record highs increasing by more than $1,000 on average. “Coloradans are facing a cost-of-living emergency,” said Hickenlooper. “President Trump promised to lower costs. Instead, his healthcare cuts, illegal tariffs, and war with Iran are hurting Colorado families. We won’t stop fighting until we reverse these disastrous policies and make the Colorado dream affordable to everyone.” On the campaign trail, President Trump pledged to “end inflation” and bring down costs for families. When asked yesterday about new data showing inflation has surged to its highest level since early 2023, President Trump responded by saying: “I love inflation.” Yesterday on the Senate floor, Hickenlooper spoke about the cost-of-living emergency. “While President Trump is busy spending trillions on bombs, ballrooms, and tax cuts for billionaires, my colleagues and I are trying to solve real problems. The ones Coloradans tell us about every day,” said Hickenlooper. Watch his full speech HERE . Hickenlooper is fighting to stop the president’s corrupt agenda that has rigged the system for the Epstein class while leaving working families behind. He fought against the president’s disastrous budget bill that gutted health care to pay for tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. He’s doing a state-wide tour of local hospitals and clinics to meet with Coloradans and hear how they are grappling with the increasing costs of health care. Hickenlooper has also voted to end the president’s unwanted war with Iran eight times and is fighting to get farmers and Americans relief from the increasing prices the illegal war has caused. ###
