We cannot allow Congress to stall, cross its fingers, and hope that everything pans out for the best, because the dark side of AI is being utilized to scam seniors, facilitate addictive algorithms, and steal the image and likeness of our children. We must continue our work in Congress to ensure it never gets out of control. We must win the AI race against China, but we need to do it in a way that protects America’s most vulnerable from AI’s dangerous potential,” said Senator Ashley Moody . BACKGROUND: As Florida’s Attorney General, Senator Moody warned about the dangers of AI and worked to protect Floridians: Ran the “ Summer Scams Series: Tech Traps ,” warning Floridians about AI voice-cloning “grandparent” scams, ChatGPT-generated phishing, and AI-assisted sextortion schemes targeting teens. Publicly highlighted how generative AI made sextortion more believable and scalable. Launched investigations into Meta and Instagram, as well as took legal action , over the platform’s algorithms and practices that sought to addict children to using the service and then profit off the children’s data. As U.S. Senator, Moody has introduced and cosponsored bills that directly address AI-generated content and platform design: NO FAKES Act (Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe Act of 2026): Creates a federal intellectual-property right in an individual’s voice and visual likeness. It makes it unlawful to distribute unauthorized AI digital replicas (deepfakes) and can hold platforms liable if they know the replica is unauthorized. The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced it unanimously in June 2026. Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) : Requires covered platforms to default to the strongest safety settings for minors, give users and parents the ability to turn off addictive design features and algorithmic recommendations, and provide better parental tools and reporting. Senator Moody has introduced the SWIPES Act and the STOP Scams Against Seniors Act . She has also sponsored the James T.
