Last weekend marked the 31st anniversary of the terrorist attack. *Click the photo above or here to watch* Remarks as prepared for delivery: Mr. Speaker, I rise today to speak on a sad anniversary for both the people of Oklahoma and for the entire nation: The 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing. Today, we honor and remember the precious lives that were lost in our community that day and the effect it had on all of us. 31 years ago, America witnessed one of the deadliest acts of domestic terrorism to date. It was a senseless act of evil that makes all of us question the good in humanity. This is not just deeply personal to my constituents in Oklahoma, but it also is to me. It’s a day that vividly replays in my head when I recall this horrific day. At the time, the federal building was within my district. I have a district office in Oklahoma where my staff serves the needs of Oklahomans well. I remember getting a call that the federal building had been bombed. Although there are multiple federal buildings, I did not know which one had been attacked and if my staff was safe. Although my staff was spared that day, that is not the case for the 168 people that were tragically killed by the explosion, the collapse of the building, or in the rescue efforts that followed the attack. These people’s lives were cut short from this evil act of violence, and their families and loved ones were forever changed in the worst way imaginable. Much time has passed since that tragic April day in 1995, but the chilling memories are still with us. We will never forget those that perished that day, and today I honor those men and women who will be remembered in our hearts forever. ### Share on
