June 23, 2026 Press Release Congressman Pat Ryan Opens Application Window for U.S. Service Academy Nominations Ryan, the first West Point graduate to represent the USMA in Congress, will accept applications for nominations to U.S. Service Academies’ class of 2031 until October 30, 2026 KINGSTON, NY  – Today, Congressman Pat Ryan announced that his office is now accepting applications for nominations to United States Service Academies’ class of 2031. Ryan, the first West Point graduate to represent the Academy in Congress, will accept applications until October 30, 2026 at 5:00PM (EST). The application packet can be found on Congressman Ryan’s website here and additional information and application requirements can be found here or by calling his district office at (845) 443-2930. Congressional, Presidential or Vice Presidential nominations are required to be considered for appointments to the United States Military, Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine academies. “As a West Point graduate myself, I’m extremely grateful to be able to pass the experience of attending a Service Academy on to the next generation of our nation’s future leaders,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “Our service academies are beacons of American values and moral fortitude – instilling honor, courage, and duty in our officer corps. Whether you’ve had the goal of attending a service academy your entire life, or even if you know you want to serve our country and are curious if this might be the path for you, I encourage any and every young person in NY-18 to reach out to my office for more information and to submit an application.” Congressman Ryan graduated from the United States military Academy at West Point in 2004. Ryan serves on the House Armed Services Committee, which oversees the United States Service Academies. Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following baseline eligibility requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an academy: Age: Be at least 17 years old, but not have passed the 23rd birthday Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen Marital Status: Must be unmarried, not pregnant, and without legal obligation to support children or other dependents Residence: Must reside within the boundaries of the 18th Congressional District of New York Skill / Fitness: Must meet the medical, physical, and academic requirements of the Academy Applicants to the United States Air Force, Merchant Marine, Military, and Naval academies must first receive a nomination from a member of either the U.S. Senate or U.S. House of  Representatives or can receive service connected nominations if they are currently enlisted in the U.S. Military. The U.S. Air Force, Military, and Naval academies also accept nominations from the U.S. President and Vice President. The United States Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination. Nominated applicants then must apply to and receive an appointment from the respective U.S. Service Academy itself. Nomination files must be received by Congressman Ryan's office no later than October 30, 2026.
