The 233rd Space Group – ANG members will now be assigned to an Intelligence Group and a Red Horse Squadron, which […] Jun 12, 2026 | Press Releases Denver — Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, celebrated the reassignment of 393 Air National Guard (ANG) members with the 233rd Space Group stationed at Greeley’s ANG Station. The 233rd Space Group – ANG members will now be assigned to an Intelligence Group and a Red Horse Squadron, which supports infrastructure and construction. The Air Force made this decision after Bennet joined the entire Colorado delegation on a letter urging Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink and Chief of Staff of the Air Force Kenneth Wilsbach to finalize assignments for the Colorado ANG members who were left without assignments last year when the Air Force decided to transfer these assignments to the U.S. Space Force. “Colorado’s Air National Guard members devote themselves to serving our country, and the uncertainty surrounding their future caused by the Air Force’s decision last year put unnecessary strain on them and their families,” said Bennet. “The Air Force’s recent decision to reassign these members provides stability for hundreds of Coloradans and helps ensure we keep the talented service members on which our state and nation rely. I’m glad that, after continued advocacy from the Coloradans here in Congress and from Colorado leadership, there is now a path forward for these men and women who choose to serve.” The Air Force’s decision to offload the ANG’s space missions threatened the careers of 178 full-time and 215 part-time Airmen who were not immediately reassigned to a new mission. This uncertainty undermined efforts to retain talented personnel, including space operators and security forces. The 233rd Space – ANG lost several members to other units, separation, or retirement, while several more were expected to transfer to the U.S. Space Force as the remissioning decision remained pending. Now that the Air Force has made a formal decision on remissioning, the Air Force must finalize the decision by signing the Record of Decision to initiate transfer activities. Bennet has consistently worked with the Colorado Congressional delegation, the Colorado National Guard, and Governor Jared Polis to support the Guard and ensure Colorado’s global aerospace leadership. Bennet has long fought against the Biden and Trump Administrations’ efforts to transfer U.S. National Guard units performing space missions to the U.S. Space Force without governors’ approvals.
