House Passes Chairwoman McClain’s Taiwan Conflict Deterrence Act
WASHINGTON— Today, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed her Taiwan Conflict Deterrence Act . Chairwoman McClain introduced the bipartisan legislation to impose severe economic consequences on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) should it initiate a military invasion of Taiwan. “Congress took a major step to protect peace, defend democracy, and deter aggression against our ally Taiwan,” Chairwoman McClain said . “The Taiwan Conflict Deterrence Act makes it crystal clear to the CCP: invading Taiwan will come with steep and immediate costs. I was proud to introduce this legislation that puts teeth behind our commitment to peace through strength in the Indo-Pacific.” In March, the House Financial Services Committee passed the legislation unanimously 48-0. The legislation was Chairwoman McClain’s first bill introduced this Congress.
