STATEMENT: On Trump Administration Move to Limit Health Care Choice for Seniors
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today released a statement on the news that the Trump administration is reportedly considering the automatic enrollment of seniors in Medicare Advantage plans. “Automatically enrolling seniors in Medicare Advantage would not only make it harder for folks to find affordable coverage, but it would be a major windfall for the major insurance companies. Yet again, this administration is putting profit over people.” In March 2025, Senator Blunt Rochester and U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) wrote to Dr. Mehmet Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, strongly opposing this proposal. ### Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester represents Delaware in the United States Senate where she serves on the Committees on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Environment and Public Works; and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
