February 28, 2025 Statement from Congressman Castro on Trump-Zelenskyy Meeting WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after President Trump and Vice President JD Vance’s disastrous Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy: “Today, Donald Trump and JD Vance disgraced the United States of America. They did so not in the usual manner, as mendacious candidates on the stump, but as the highest representatives of our government in the most official American setting — the Oval Office. The world is turning against us because of President Trump. “My district in San Antonio is home to a large Ukrainian-American community, including many women and children who fled after their homes were destroyed by Russia. The Ukrainian people have fought bravely against Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion, and they have rightly earned the support of much of the free world. “President Trump’s behavior in the Oval Office today was a humiliating display of deference to Russia, which has massacred , raped, and tortured Ukrainian civilians and kidnapped Ukrainian children .
