❌ Deterring China

If China invades Taiwan, it won’t just be a foreign policy crisis — it’ll be an economic disaster right here in Iowa . 🚨 This morning, I joined the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party to sound the alarm . Why it matters : Taiwan isn’t just a key U.S. ally, it’s the backbone of global tech and the producer of 90% of the world’s advanced semiconductors . If China takes control of that industrial capacity: 📉 U.S. markets could crash by 34% 💰 Global GDP could fall by $10 trillion 🛠️ Iowa manufacturers, from Main Street to our agriculture, would feel the hit overnight The plan : We’re leading on two bipartisan bills to build a strategic economic defense plan and make the U.S. commitment to Indo-Pacific security crystal clear and codified in U.S. law. This will prepare our military, markets, allies, and supply chains to deter a Chinese invasion while ensuring we’re prepared for the fallout in the event of an attack on Taiwan. Bottom Line: Our plan to deter China needs to include a smart combination of deterrence and preparedness — we’re leading on legislation that delivers both.
