Courtney Condemns Threats and Hate Speech Directed Toward Norwich Mayor Singh
May 20, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) released the following statement on the threats and hate speech directed to Norwich, Connecticut Mayor Swarnjit Singh. “The sickening threats and hateful rhetoric directed toward Mayor Singh and his family have no place in eastern Connecticut. Sikh families are a valued part of our diverse community. As a nation, we must work to root out discrimination against Sikh Americans and all forms of religious bigotry,” Courtney said. “I know Mayor Singh is a strong public servant and will be more determined than ever to do the job of Mayor. I am behind him 100%.” Congressman Courtney is a cosponsor of the bipartisan Sikh American Anti-Discrimination Act (H.R. 7100) , which would create a U.S. Department of Justice Task Force on Anti-Sikh Discrimination. The task force would be required to collaborate with the Sikh community. ###
