Grassley-Backed Legislation to Improve Taxpayer Service Advances
BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), a senior member and former chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, welcomed the U.S. Senate’s unanimous passage of the Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act, bipartisan legislation to strengthen taxpayer rights, modernize Internal Revenue Service (IRS) operations and improve the agency’s ability to administer the tax code predictably and efficiently. The TAS Act includes more than 65 bipartisan reforms to improve the taxpayer experience, including recommendations from the National Taxpayer Advocate. Numerous Grassley priorities were passed as part of the legislation, including provisions to improve the IRS Whistleblower Program , combat tax refund fraud and eliminate tax headaches for farmers. The legislation now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives. “Iowa taxpayers deserve a smooth experience when dealing with the IRS. I’m glad many of my priorities were included in this legislation, like my bills to make tax filing easier for family farmers and hold corporate tax cheats accountable. I’ll keep working to get this bill over the finish line to make life a little easier for Iowa families,” Grassley said . In July, the Finance Committee approved the TAS Act by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 26-1. -30-
