Federal Judge Temporarily Halts Musk’s Access to Your Data, Orders Copies Destroyed
Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01), a long-time consumer data privacy leader in Congress, released the following statement after a federal judge temporarily halted Elon Musk and his associates’ access to the Treasury Department’s payment system, which contains significant sensitive taxpayer information. “Elon Musk is an unelected and unaccountable billionaire who was given illegal access to the sensitive personal information of millions of Americans by Donald Trump. This is an outrageous and unlawful breach of Americans’ financial, Social Security, and health data. While I am encouraged by the court’s ruling, it is a limited victory. Musk and his associates, who have no experience in government, still have access to Americans’ data at other federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. I’m continuing to demand answers to how this happened and work to put a permanent end to it."
