Jul 17, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Senator Ashley Moody joined SenatorTed Cruz to introduce the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act. Thisbill implements a new modernized strategy for designating the MuslimBrotherhood as a terrorist group.
Senator Ashley Moodysaid, “The Muslim Brotherhood TerroristDesignation Act is commonsense legislation that will declare the MuslimBrotherhood, a group known to seek widespread hate against Christians, Jews andother religious groups, a foreign terrorist organization. This group activelyprovides support for groups like Hamas, the cowards responsible for the October7th massacre of innocent Israelis—and they continue to spread their violenceacross the globe. Today we can join our allies across Europe and the MiddleEast in this designation, and I urge its swift passage.”
Senator Ted Cruzsaid, “The Muslim Brotherhood is aterrorist organization, and it provides support to Muslim Brotherhood branchesthat are terrorist organizations. One of those branches is Hamas, which onOctober 7 committed the worst single-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, which included the murder and kidnapping of at least 53 Americans. They arecommitted to the overthrow and destruction of America and other non-Islamistgovernments across the world, and pose an acute threat to American nationalsecurity interests. American allies in the Middle East and Europe have alreadylabeled the Brotherhood a terrorist organization, and the United States shoulddo the same, and do so expeditiously.”
Joining Senators Moody and Cruz wereSenators Tom Cotton, John Boozman, Rick Scott and Dave McCormick.
Senator Tom Cottonsaid, “The Muslim Brotherhood preachesdeath to Israel, the United States, and other western governments. These arethe statements of a terrorist group, and they should be labeled as such.”
Senator John Boozmansaid, “The Muslim Brotherhood’sterrorist actions are well documented and deeply troubling. Historic supportand financial backing to groups such as Hamas, the terrorist organizationresponsible for the October 7 attacks, are indicative of the Muslim Brotherhood’sextremist ideologies that warrant American action to protect lives, strengthenour national security and ultimately reinforce our commitment to stability inthe region.”
Senator Rick Scottsaid, “The Muslim Brotherhood is aradical Islamist network with deep ties to extremist organizations like Hamasand the states that support them, like Qatar and Turkey, which on October 7th,massacred innocent Israelis and brutally attacked Americans. We know that theseterror groups share an evil goal to destroy democracy, threaten our allies, andundermine America’s national security. That’s why I’m joining this urgenteffort to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization, ultimately blocking access to U.S. soil and our dollars. We owe it to ourcitizens, our service members, and our allies to confront this evil head-on.”
Companion legislation was introduced inthe House by Representative Mario Díaz-Balart.
Representative Díaz-Balartsaid, “Today, I once again introducedlegislation to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terroristorganization. The global Muslim Brotherhood has numerous regional branches, including terrorist organizations such as Hamas, and spreads violence andinstability throughout the Middle East. For this reason, it is crucial to U.S.national security interests that we prohibit U.S. dollars from enabling theMuslim Brotherhood’s dangerous activities, and that we ensure Muslim Brotherhoodmembers are blocked from entering the United States. This important legislationgives the Trump Administration the additional authority it needs to protectAmericans, and our closest allies, from this insidious threat.”
