Larson Votes Against GOP “Make America Greedy Again” Tax Plan

Image May 22, 2025 Press Release House Republican Bill Kicks 14 million Americans Off Health Care Plans to Pay for Tax Breaks for the Wealthy Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against the House Republican tax bill, which would give an average annual tax cut of $278,000 to the top 0.1%, paid for with cuts to Medicaid coverage and SNAP nutrition benefits. “Republicans kept the House in session over night to deliver for the wealthy few,” said Larson. “If this bill becomes law, the wealthiest 0.1% will see hundreds of thousands of dollars in new tax breaks, but 14 million Americans will be kicked off their health care plans, and many more will see their premiums skyrocket. 24 million Social Security recipients will still pay taxes on their benefits – reneging on President Trump’s promise to the American people. Democrats fought tirelessly throughout this process to shine a light on these devastating cuts and unfulfilled promises. We offered hundreds of amendments to support working families and seniors, but Republicans blocked each and every one of them – including my amendment to stop taxing Social Security and enhance benefits by asking the wealthy to pay their fair share. They don’t need another tax cut! As this bill heads to the Senate, Americans must continue to speak up and make their voices heard. Democrats will not stop fighting to protect the programs families rely on like Medicaid, SNAP, and Social Security, from this billionaire cash grab.” The House Republican tax plan: Gives the richest 0.1% an average annual tax cut of $278,000, while individuals making under $50,000/year would see a benefit of only $0.72 per day Kicks 13.8 million Americans off their Medicaid or Affordable Care Act coverage Slashes funding for SNAP nutrition benefits, reducing or eliminating benefits for 42 million Americans Requires 24 million Americans to keep paying taxes on their Social Security benefits, going back on President Trump’s promise Issues : Congressman Larson's Committees Health Care Standing Up to Trump and ‘DOGE’ Social Security Tax Policy
