WATCH: Kelly Talks to ABC15 Arizona About Urgent Need to Act on AI

This week, Senator Mark Kelly spoke to ABC15 Arizona’s Nick Ciletti about the urgent need for Congress to protect Americans by putting guardrails on AI. Last year, Kelly released AI for America , a roadmap to make sure AI benefits workers and to protect them from the worst outcomes it could lead to. Since then, he’s introduced the AI DATA Act to track AI’s impact on the workforce, the Aging with AI Act and Senior Chatbot Protection Act to protect seniors, the Advanced AI Security Readiness Act to protect America’s AI systems from theft or sabotage by foreign adversaries, the WARP Act to preserve warfighter skills and readiness, and the Ultimate Human Responsibility in Defense Systems Act to keep humans accountable as AI is integrated into the military. Sen. Kelly talks to Nick Ciletti on ABC15 Arizona. Watch the full interview here . See key excerpts below: On Congress’s responsibility to act on AI before bad outcomes happen… “There are things we can do and that we should do, and we need to act… The other CEOs of the frontier AI companies need to get on board with this. They can put in the guardrails themselves, but we can’t count on them to do that. And it’s the responsibility of the U.S. Senate and the House and the Administration.” On whether we can pursue AI’s benefits while doing it responsibly… “We have to put some restrictions on these companies. The companies are starting to ask for these things. They want regulation. They want guardrails in place. We have to be able to mitigate for bad outcomes before they actually happen.”
