Slotkin Statement on Supreme Court Ruling Declaring Some of President Trump’s Tariffs Illegal

WASHINGTON, D.C. —
Today, U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court decision to strike down some of President Trump’s tariffs:
“Our Constitution makes clear that only Congress can levy tariffs or raise taxes. Earlier today, the Supreme Court confirmed it, including justices President Trump himself nominated. He now needs to abide by the law.
“We need trade policy that drives costs down, protects our jobs, and provides certainty. This is especially true for the crown jewels of Michigan’s economy: our auto companies and our agricultural industry.”
