Larson (CT-01) , and Representative Julie Johnson (TX-32) introduced the Hands Off Our Social Security Act , new legislation to protect the integrity and accessibility of the Social Security Administration (SSA). Endorsed by Social Security Works , the bill is a direct response cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to slash SSA staffing, close field offices, and mine beneficiaries’ personal data. It also responds to recent Supreme Court rulings allowing DOGE to expanded access to Social Security information. “Social Security is not a luxury—it’s a promise that Americans earn through hard work,” said Rep. Stansbury. “This bill ensures that promise is kept, by stopping efforts to gut the system, privatize it, or make it harder for people to get help. People who have paid into the system deserve benefits they can count on, privacy that’s respected, and real people to help when they need support. The bill is designed to protect those individuals from being harmed by executive overreach, underfunding, or political games.
