My stance on data centers.
July 14, 2026 Past Newsletters Data centers have been a hot topic – for good reason. Neighbors in Martindale Brightwood, Irvington, and across the country have adamantly opposed AI data centers, citing noise and environmental concerns, plus the potential for utility bills to rise. Neighborhood voices should be central to any type of community development or change, which is why I introduced my AI Data Center Site Selection Transparency Act . This bill would make transparency a requirement, not an afterthought -- requiring developers to publicly disclose proposed locations at least 180 days before any definitive steps toward development, giving communities time to organize and respond. It would also require disclosure of electricity use, water consumption, and other environmental impacts, backed by an independent, third-party analysis funded by the developer. I’m also supporting a nationwide pause on all new AI data centers until more protections can be put in place. You deserve a guarantee that data centers won’t increase utility costs or hurt the environment. AI data centers have the potential to create good-paying, union jobs -- but right now, we can’t make sure those workers are protected. Hoosiers are already facing high grocery, gas, and housing costs. We can’t allow hardworking families to pay the burden of this rapidly rising technology without guardrails. You and your neighborhood deserve common sense protections. I want to hear from you: Do you support a nationwide pause on new AI data centers?
