Olszewski: Education Department Key to Opportunity for All
March 20, 2025 Press Release (Washington, DC) – Congressman Johnny Olszewski today issued the following statement on President Trump’s Executive Order to dismantle the federal Department of Education: “As a former American government teacher and a first-generation college graduate, I know first-hand that education is the key to opportunity. This Executive Order strips our children of their basic right to opportunity. This order will directly impact every child in every school – especially students with disabilities or in high-poverty communities. It will mean bigger class sizes and more demands on already overworked and underpaid teachers. Schools in my district alone receive more than $31 million under Title 1 and another $31 million for nutritional assistance. More than $32 million in federal funding supports children with disabilities. I urge my colleagues in Congress to fight this and any effort to disinvest in our children and our futures.” ### Issues : Education
