Why we need medical research.

September 24, 2025 Past Newsletters Last week, I shared a post highlighting medical research projects that have been cut by the Trump administration. Here’s a summary of just some of the lifesaving research we’ve already lost: Diabetes Treatment Research Funding 38.4 million Americans suffered from diabetes in 2021 alone. We need      better solutions and treatment for diabetes, which this funding could      have made possible – but the Trump administration terminated this      study with its extreme, harmful funding cuts. Critical Pulmonary Hypertension Research Funding 126,526 deaths were recorded from PAH in the US from 2003 through      2020. It’s a severe and progressive disease with a high mortality rate.      These studies could have brough a new understanding of the      progression of PAH and new interventions – but the Trump      administration terminated it. Pediatric Asthma Prevention Studies Over half a million children and adults living in Indiana suffer from      asthma. This IU School of Medicine research could have enhanced      early detection rates and helped reduce the risk of asthma disease      progress – but the Trump administration terminated it. I’m fighting to restore and expand full funding to the National Institutes of Health because the next cure for the diseases Americans suffer from is within reach – as long as we stay committed to it. Healthcare: House Democrats lowered healthcare costs – but this administration is rolling back our progress. I helped pass tax credits to help working families afford health care, but those are set to expire soon. If Congress does not act now, 267,996 people across Indiana will lose their health insurance entirely – and the average person will see costs rise $590 every year. At a time when too many are struggling to make ends meet, this is unacceptable. I want to know what you think. Do you support extending critical tax credits that help families afford health care?
