Senator Coons statement supporting War Powers Resolution

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, issued the following statement regarding his support for the fourth effort by Senate Democrats to pass a War Powers Resolution constraining President Trump’s war of choice with Iran:
“I just voted once again to end President Trump’s war of choice with Iran that has plunged the Middle East into chaos. President Trump promised the Iranian people that help is on the way so they can rise up against their dangerous and repressive regime and promised the American people that he will stop Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon. Instead, his reckless war, waged without publicly laying out a clear rationale, strategy, or goal, has left the American and Iranian people all worse off than before it started.
“I am praying for the safety of the tens of thousands of service members the president is moving into the region and the many civilians in harm’s way. I will continue to seek out every effort I can to end this war, keep Americans safe, and protect civilians across the region.”
