DONIPHAN, Mo. – Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08) visited Current River Packing in Ripley County this week, where he toured the facility to discuss the company’s growth and the impact of the Working Families Tax Cuts on small businesses in rural Missouri. Congressman Smith said, “Current River Packing is a major facility in Ripley County, and their eggs will end up on tables all across this country. These families are building something from the ground up, and they’re creating good-paying jobs and certainty for local families right here in Ripley County. That’s the kind of investment rural Missouri deserves, and I’ll keep fighting in Washington for the tax relief and regulatory reforms that let businesses like this one grow instead of just get by.” Current River Packing is owned by the families of Ben Samons, Brock Ray, Sissy Gray, and Corey Kaczmarski. The facility will employee roughly 30 people, with plans to hire additional employees as they begin processing later this summer. Its grading machine can process 90,000 eggs per hour, and as the operation grows, Current River Packing is expected to strengthen competitive wages and stabilize jobs across the region. As a growing small business, Current River Packing benefits directly from provisions in the Working Families Tax Cuts, which Congressman Smith authored. Permanent 100 percent bonus depreciation allows the company to immediately deduct the cost of new equipment as it expands operations, while the permanent small business deduction helps keep more money in the business to reinvest and create more jobs. Together, these provisions give small businesses like Current River Packing long-term certainty to invest and grow.
