JERSEY CITY, N.J. –In less than 72 hours, Senator Andy Kim held three in-person town halls to cap off a week of bringing representative government to the people of New Jersey.

Each of the three town halls drew crowds as high as 700, with overflow rooms needed to accommodate the overwhelming number of New Jerseyans. Crowds varied across gender, age, and ideological spectrum to hear from Senator Kim and to have their voices heard on issues ranging from potential cuts to Medicaid and education funding, to protecting veterans and public servants.

“I was told holding town halls now is too risky, but the 1,500 people who showed up over the last 72 hours to my three town halls deserved to be heard,”said Senator Andy Kim.“I met with people in Republican districts who are furious that their representatives are working to gut Medicaid and allowing Trump and Elon Musk to trample our Constitution.”

The town halls were held in New Jersey’s second, fourth, and seventh congressional districts, all represented by Republicans who have refused to hold in-person town halls for their constituents and who have voted in line with President Trump’s agenda, including voting for a budget that wouldslash $880 billion from Medicaiddespite 1 in 3 kids relying on Medicaid for healthcare in New Jersey.

Senator Kim’s town hall tour comes as Republicans across the country face backlash from constituents who are upset with the overreach and gutting of federal government that has occurred at the hands of Donald Trump and Elon Musk, and the resulting anger from constituents not being able to speak with their elected representatives directly asRepublicans across the country are being directed to stop doing town halls.

Earlier in the week, Senator Kimmet with educatorsto talk about protecting funding for New Jersey’s kids, visited Cape May Countyto emphasize the importance of protecting funding for those with special needs, met withUkrainian-Americans about the importance of American leadership abroadandHaitian-Americans about the importance of fixing our broken immigration system, met with small business owners in Passaicabout the damage Trump’s tariffs are doing to New Jersey’s economy, andheld a press conference about potential cuts to housing programs and public servants.
