WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) delivered a speech on the Senate floor today honoring Rittman Police Sgt. Scott Ries, who was killed in the line of duty on July 5, 2026. Sgt. Ries was fatally shot while responding to a domestic violence call. He served with the Rittman Police Department for 10 years after nearly two decades with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. He also previously served with the Sugar Grove Police Department. Key excerpts include: “Every day, the men and women of law enforcement leave home, not knowing what they will encounter. “They live life with the uncertainty of what the next hazard is that they might encounter during the call that they receive to go protect and serve.” . . . “Sgt.
