Capito, Justice Introduce Resolution Commemorating 2016 West Virginia Flood

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Jim Justice (R-W.Va.) introduced a resolution recognizing the 10th anniversary of the historic 2016 West Virginia flood and honoring the 23 lives lost, survivors, first responders, and communities that came together in its aftermath. As we mark ten years since the devastating 2016 flood, we remember the 23 West Virginians we lost, and the devastation that occurred across our state. My heart still aches for the incredible losses we experienced that day, and the families and communities who suffered the most during this tragedy,” Senator Capito said. “We also remember the courageous actions of our first responders on the ground, and the support that poured in from all across our state. Together, we’ve rebuilt our homes, opened brand new schools, and put our communities back together again. While ten years have passed, we will always remember those we lost, and the resilience, compassion, and unity that helped our state rebuild and emerge stronger.” “Ten years ago, West Virginia faced one of the darkest days in our state’s history. The devastation left behind by the 2016 flood was unimaginable, and we will never forget the 23 precious lives that were lost. But through our pain, we saw the very best of West Virginia. We saw neighbors helping neighbors, communities coming together, and so many folks pulling the rope together. We picked each other up, rebuilt what was lost, and showed the world that West Virginians do not quit when times get tough. This resolution is a reminder that we will always honor those we lost and never forget the resilience that defines our great state,” Senator Jim Justice said.
