July 22, 2025 Press Release After 18 years of delay, Mace advances legislation resolving a key issue for her hometown (Washington, D.C., July 22, 2025) – After nearly two decades of bureaucratic delay and resident frustration, Goose Creek is one step closer to getting the ZIP Code it deserves, thanks to the leadership of Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01). The legislation, which passed the House Monday evening, directs the U.S. Postal Service to assign new ZIP Codes to 66 communities across the country, including Goose Creek, where Mace was raised and continues to represent in Congress. “This is personal,” said Congresswoman Mace. “I grew up in Goose Creek. I know exactly how long this community has been waiting for a fix, and how frustrating it’s been for families, businesses, and city leaders who’ve had to live with the consequences.” The issue began in 2006, when Goose Creek annexed Carnes Crossroads. Yet despite clear city boundaries, the U.S. Postal Service never updated ZIP Code assignments, leaving many residents stuck with Summerville ZIP Codes. This mismatch led to years of misdirected tax payments, confusion about voting districts, and challenges accessing basic city services. Congresswoman Mace, who serves on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has been a strong advocate for fixing this issue. She’s worked closely with Goose Creek officials and has consistently backed legislation to correct the ZIP Code problem. Congresswoman Mace made resolving this issue a priority, using her position on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to ensure Goose Creek’s inclusion in the final bill. She worked directly with local officials, advanced the legislation through committee, and helped secure its passage in the House. “Goose Creek has waited 18 years for this change,” Congresswoman Mace continued. “This isn’t just a technical fix, it’s about making sure our hometown is recognized accurately and treated fairly.” City officials submitted multiple formal requests to the Postal Service over the years, but no action was taken. Mace’s leadership helped move the solution forward in the House. This success marks another example of Rep. Mace delivering results for South Carolina’s First Congressional District, cutting through bureaucracy and standing up for the people and places which matter most. With House passage complete, the bill now heads to the Senate for consideration. ### Issues : Congress Lowcountry Oversight & Accountability
