Rep. John McGuire celebrates Hitachi groundbreaking in South Boston, Virginia
June 29, 2026 Press Release SOUTH BOSTON, VA — Today, Representative John McGuire participated in the groundbreaking of Hitachi's newest transformer facility, located in South Boston, Virginia. The $457 investment will add 825 jobs to the Southside workforce. The facility's creation in South Boston is the product of efforts by Rep. McGuire, Hitachi leadership, President Trump, and former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. The facility will also be the nation's largest producer of large power transformers. “Today marks an exciting chapter for Southside Virginia as we break ground on Hitachi’s new transformer factory,” said Rep. John McGuire (VA-05). “This multi-million-dollar investment will bring over 800 more jobs to Virginia’s Fifth District, while supporting America’s energy dominance.
