Scott: Trump’s Day One Actions Focused on Culture Wars and Grievance, Not Working Families

January 21, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump issued a number of executive orders and pardons for January 6 th rioters shortly after his inauguration: “The American people have made it clear they want Washington to focus on lowering costs and investing in the economy. I am committed to working across the aisle to create jobs and lower grocery, housing, health care, energy and other costs for hardworking American families. “Instead of addressing the cost of living, President Trump spent his first day in office issuing executive orders focusing on culture wars, ending efforts to promote diversity, halting our progress combatting the climate crisis and sabotaging the federal workforce. He issued shameful pardons and commutations for those who committed acts of violence against law enforcement in their failed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. He even issued an executive order to end birthright citizenship in violation of the 14 th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. “None of these actions will invest in our economy or lower costs for taxpayers. I stand ready, willing and able to work with President Trump and Congressional Republicans to take real actions to make life better for America’s working families.” # # #
