Congresswoman Simon Announces Over $91 Million in Funding for Scientific Research and Infrastructure and Climate Resiliency Projects

June 4, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) announced nine grants, totaling over $91 million in federal funding for scientific research projects and infrastructure upgrades for California’s 12 th Congressional District. The grants include over $1.76 million in funding for scientific research projects at the University of California, Berkeley and $88.89 million in federal funding to support climate resiliency projects and transportation upgrades in the East Bay and throughout Northern California. Three separate research projects at UC Berkeley will receive a National Science Foundation (NSF) award to continue their cutting-edge research. Six separate Department of Transportation (DOT) grants will support upgrades and repairs to bridges, roads, coastline, community evacuation routes, and other critical infrastructure damaged by severe weather events including flood, mudslides, and landslides. “I’m excited to announce over $91 million in funding for scientific and transportation projects. Since being sworn into Congress in January, I have been laser-focused on shoring up and bringing resources back to CA-12, especially amidst nationwide uncertainty about federal funding under the Trump Administration. “The over $88 million of federal investment for infrastructure and climate resilience projects in the East Bay and across neighboring counties in Northern California will help to repair and improve our roads, bridges, landmarks, and communities.
