Shaheen Statement on ACLU Findings Outlining Detailed Plans for Merrimack ICE Facility

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement in light ofnew findings from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Hampshirethat made public state documents confirming detailed plans for a new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Merrimack:
“In New Hampshire, many Granite Staters are watching the Trump Administration’s chaotic and often lawless approach to immigration enforcement with outrage and anxiety—wondering what it could mean if similar operations were to expand into our communities. Yet for more than a month, rumors about plans for a new ICE facility in Merrimack raised questions that went unanswered as DHS provided unsatisfactory responses or outright ignored our requests for more information, leaving the public completely in the dark.
“Granite Staters deserve answers about what the federal government is planning in New Hampshire, especially amid growing concerns with how this Administration’s sweeping and untargeted operations have wreaked havoc and made it harder for local law enforcement to do their jobs. The Trump Administration’s responses thus far have been wholly inadequate, and I intend to continue forcefully pushing for answers.
“We know that we can and must have a secure border, safe communities and adhere to a humane immigration system that abides by the rule-of-law.”
