Senator Kim Stands in Solidarity with Civil Servants Forced Out of USAID at Reagan Building, Echoes Outcries Against Trump/Musk Gutting the Agency

WASHINGTON D.C. –Today,Senator Andy Kimstood with U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) workers who were fired or put on leave by the Trump administration, as they returned to clean out their desks at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington. A former USAID employee, Senator Kim shared in the devastation of the moment for these public servants, and for the harm from gutting USAID on American global strength, leadership, and security.
“My heart sank returning to the same building where I began my career, watching devoted Americans being forced to step away from the jobs they cherished and their opportunity to serve to our country,”said Senator Kim.“It was important to me that I show up to recognize them, the service of other workers being attacked by Trump and Musk right now and help demonstrate that our shared grief is not just for any individual job lost, but for the collective destruction and harm being done on our country.”

Senator Kim is a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP); the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kim represented New Jersey’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House and was a career public servant working in national security and diplomacy at the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.
