Senator Justice Visits Facing Hunger Foodbank in Mingo County

WILLIAMSON, WV – Today, Senator Jim Justice and his staff visited Facing Hunger Foodbank, where they volunteered as part of his Service Month initiative, marking the 10th service project his staff has participated in during August recess. “Being a West Virginian means understanding a simple truth: we take care of our own, and we never turn our backs on a neighbor in need. No family in this state should ever have to sit down to an empty table, and no child or senior ought to go to sleep wondering where their next meal is coming from. Facing Hunger is doing the Lord’s work and helping so many every single day. Having my team here today, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the folks who are putting food on tables across West Virginia, is a powerful reminder of just how much good can happen when we come together and lend a hand. Facing Hunger has known since day one that I will always stand in their corner, and I promise I will continue to support them in every way,” said Senator Jim Justice . “What an incredible week we have had with the team from Senator Justice’s offices joining us in service to the people in the coalfields. Senator Justice has not forgotten the people here and remains a great advocate for resolving hunger for our brothers and sisters here. These distributions have allowed all of us to continue our long-standing partnership by providing for others. The kindness and service support have been a blessing, and ending the week with the Senator being with us was a reminder that when we work together, we can accomplish so much more. We are grateful to the Senator for this gift of his team and their service, and his ongoing support to our food bank as well as their service communities at the center of our work,” said CEO of Facing Hunger Foodbank, Cyndi Kirkhart . BACKGROUND: In February 2026, Senator Justice visited the Facing Hunger Foodbank in Huntington to celebrate $1.1M in CDS funding he secured for Mingo County’s warehouse distribution renovations. As Governor, Senator Justice was extremely supportive of food banks and was the first governor in state history to explicitly add a recurring direct line item for the state’s major food banks in the budget. In 2023, he announced the launch of the Posey Perry Emergency Food Fund, a $10 million reserve account dedicated to combating food insecurity in West Virginia. In total, Governor Justice allocated $20 million to the Posey Perry fund during his tenure. ###
