The caucus will support and advocate for America’s first renewable energy resource and keep hydropower at the center of congressional work to lower energy costs, strengthen grid reliability, create jobs, and expand American energy production. “Hydropower is at the heart of lowering energy costs for hardworking Granite Staters and making America the world’s clean energy superpower,” said Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander. “For generations, hydropower has delivered reliable, homegrown energy to communities across New Hampshire and our country. Our bipartisan caucus will bring together the people with the expertise and ideas we need to cut red tape, invest in innovation, and get more affordable American energy online. I’m proud to lead this effort with Congressman Harrigan, and I will keep working across the aisle to lower costs and build an energy future that works for the people we serve.” “We are asking more of our electric grid every year, while some of the most reliable power in the country is already being generated by infrastructure we built generations ago,” said Congressman Pat Harrigan . “Hydropower works, it’s American, and there is no good reason outdated permitting and licensing should stand in the way of getting more out of it. The Hydropower Caucus gives us a bipartisan forum to work through those barriers, bring the people who actually build and operate these systems to the table, and make sure this proven source of American energy has a much bigger role in meeting the demand ahead.” The Hydropower Caucus will serve as a venue to inform and educate Members of Congress and their staff and connect them with hydropower and marine energy subject matter experts at federal agencies, in industry, and at related stakeholder organizations. It will convene discussions on the issues facing hydropower and marine energy, including permitting and licensing reform, federal incentive programs, tax policy, research, development, and deployment. “Hydropower is the nation’s longest tenured electricity generator, providing clean, reliable, and affordable power to homes and businesses for over a century.  Hydropower was the backbone of the industrial revolution and, with proper stewardship, will see us through the information age as well.  Hydropower has always benefited from strong bipartisan support as a result, which is why we are so proud that the Granite State’s own Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (D-NH) has stepped forward to co-chair the Congressional Hydropower Caucus with Representative Pat Harrigan of North Carolina (R).
